POESÍA EN ACCIÓN, ACCIÓN POETICA, Performance Still, Colonia San Rafael, Mexico City, MX, June 2020
POESÍA EN ACCIÓN/ ACCIÓN POÉTICA

Inspired by the sound of street vendors in Mexico City and how, due to daily conditioning, their calls capture the immediate attention of city dwellers this public intervention, made during the initial lockdown of the COVID-19 pandemic, used this same format as a vehicle of cultural dispersion in times of isolation.

The project invited artists, writers, and poets to record a series of short texts which were then collected and reproduced through a megaphone mounted on the artist Kara Rooney's bicycle as she toured the different neighborhoods of CDMX. The spoken word pieces, which comprise an 11-minute loop, are interspersed with fragments from Octavio Paz's "Labyrinth of Solitude", illuminating issues of isolation and cultural heritage in Mexico. Enacted over the course of two months in 2020, the final audio work and its accompanying street performances served as a type of sonic theater, forming a labyrinth of contemporary voices [collectively] marking time in this moment of separation and solitude.
